It’s been a little while since we have posted any new blogs. After a very busy holiday season we are back on the blog to bring you updates and opinions on all kinds of new toys, figures, & statues. With the new year comes new toy announcements. Also, we are working on a new project that promises to be exciting for some of our favorite toy collectors.
We are only a couple of weeks away from the 2014 Toy Fair International in New York. It will be a fun time with lots of pictures and new announcements as manufacturers dazzle us with this year’s releases. Stay tuned as we take you through our trip to New York to see companies like Kotobukiya, Funko, Dark Horse, etc.
In the coming months we will be releasing more information on a new project that should excite some of our favorite funatic collectors. Hints will be dropped here and there but when the announcement is official you will find a Facebook page and website dedicated to this new idea. Any guesses?
We are always trying to find new products and new ideas to share with you. This year looks like it will be our biggest yet and we are excited to take you on the journey with us.
The season premiere of The Walking Dead has come and gone and it was fantastic. I’m so pleased with the progress the show makes each year. The success of the show brings even more figures and collectibles our way. What could be more pleasing than that? Rick and the gang are getting quite the treatment with action figures, plushes, vinyl figures, statues, busts, key chains and more.
Mcfarlane Toys pioneered the Walking Dead toy craze with some great comic and TV figures. They started out great with a limited run of popular characters and even offered some chase variants. As the show has continued the Mcfarlane figures keep getting better and better. The articulation of the sculpts has grown leaps and bounds as well as the depth of the character roster. We have most of the main characters and the most memorable zombies ready to face the apocalypse.
Funko brings us some other great Walking Dead fun with their POP! and plushie lines. The POP! line gives us some great zombies and characters. With the regular releases, retailer and convention exclusives there are a lot of great options. But nothing is better for a cuddle than the Poncho Daryl plushie. He will keep you safe from walkers even while you sleep.
The most lacking area for The Walking Dead goodies is the statues and busts. Gentle Giant aims to repair that problem with a nice line of TV related items. The Rick Grimes bust recently released and a SDCC exclusive Michonne bust was a big hit as well. With talk of 12″ statues heading our way we are ready for the undead apocalypse.
What types of Walking Dead merchandise do you want to see get made? (Mine is a zombie Milton figure from Season 3!!)
This year DC Comics started something new. They redid every major comic from the view point of the villains as a kick off to Forever Evil. This served as a New 52 introduction to the Crime Syndicate. And as we know with every new introduction is a chance for collectibles gold.
Over the next 6 to 12 months DC Collectibles will be releasing a whole slew of Super Villains figures from Captain Cold and Joker to the Crime Syndicate itself with Ultraman and Superwoman. Villains figures are usually under produced, especially the more obscure villains. So this makes for a great opportunity to stock up on the rogues gallery.
With this new direction and take on the characters I for one am very excited. The villains are always the most interesting part of the story. They add depth and despair to the hero as well as set up epic battles and mind boggling mysteries. From figures to statues I am excited to see what other new villains we will see leap off the pages of comics into my display case. What villains do you want to add to your collection?
October 25th marks the release of the Arkham Origins game. It is exciting for any fan of the Arkham games franchise. More exciting for us though are all the new figures and statues that come from it. Like Arkham City and Arkham Asylum before it DC Collectibles will be releasing a whole line of figures based on the game. Figures of Batman, Joker, and Bane are joined by new characters to the franchise like Deathstroke, Black Mask, and Firefly. The game itself will even come with an awesome looking Joker statue when you get the collectors edition.
With the addition of each announced Arkham Origins figure or statue is the knowledge that we still have more Arkham City goodies yet to come. This winter will see Batman and Catwoman statues as well as some 4″ figures from Mattel. The games are compelling and addicting but the collectibles are long lasting well after you’ve beaten the game. What are your favorite Arkham collectibles?
We always look forward to our shipment from Kotobukiya. This month’s shipment included a new Marvel bishoujo, the next ArtFXJ from Trigun Badlands Rumble, and a great ArtFX statue from Dead Space 3!
First up is the Kitty Pryde bishoujo. This member of the X-men joins the other X-men women from the Marvel bishoujo line like Storm, Psylocke, and Rogue! This version of Kitty Pryde was base on illustrations from Shunya Yamashita and sculpted by Mangusai Touda. We were really pleased with how this statue turned out, and Lockheed adds the perfect touch to complete the statue.
Next we have the Isaac Clarke ArtFX from Dead Space 3. This statue shows Isaac in his Resource Integration Gear suit, in the snow, with his plasma cutter. A ball joint is also integrated into his neck to allow for his head to be posed. Really all that would make for a cool statue, but Kotobukiya included LEDs in his helmet, backpack, and glove! Check out that picture, and tell us that isn’t cool!
Lastly for this month is Nicholas D. Wolfwood from Trigun: Badlands Rumble. Nicholas joins Vash in the Trigun Badlands Rumble series. With The Punisher behind him and his pistol in front, Nicholas is ready for action! He also comes with removable sunglasses. Also, if you missed the news, Vash is being re-released in a Gunman in Black version!
You can find each of these on our site. Make sure to check them out, and let us know what you think!
We are over halfway through the ArtFX+ Justice League statues from Kotobukiya. Batman just joined Superman, Green Lantern, Flash, and Aquaman. This only leaves Wonder Woman and Cyborg to complete this set. Here is the final set from Toy Fair 2013, but we’d love to see your display so far! The good news is Kotobukiya is going to continue with the DC ArtFX+, as they’ve already announced Catwoman and Shazam! There was also a prototype of a Black Adam statue that was posted with the early Shazam pictures. We are excited to complete the Justice League set, and even more interested in what will be added to the lineup in the future! Which characters would you like to see in this scale?
We are back for another look at the toys and collectibles inspired by the release of Man of Steel. I for one can’t wait for the movie. Superman movies have had a bit of a troubled past. Superman 4 or Superman Returns comes to mind. This new film looks stunning and the toys and collectibles look just as good.
First up is the ArtFX Man of Steel statue by Kotobukiya. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, I love Kotobukiya. They do a great job bringing every piece they make to life. This statue not only looks great in it’s sculpt but it also has some unusual features as well. The cape is moveable. You can adjust the cape in nearly any configuration that you would like. That’s definitely awesome, a statue you can basically play with!!
Next is the Funko Man of Steel Wacky Wobblers and POP!s. These are some fun items to use at work on your desk or at home to display proudly next to your other collectibles. The POP!s are vinyl comic like versions of the characters while the Wacky Wobblers are essentially bobble heads of the characters from the film. Either way it is an inexpensive, fun way to celebrate the awesomeness of Man of Steel.
Where would our superhero movies be without action figures. This movie has a wide variety from the not very detailed to the intricately detailed. My favorite figures from the movie are definitely the Play Art Kai figures by Square Enix. They are 10″ tall and super detailed. They can take on any pose so they are good for those of us kids at heart who want to play with them or for the serious collector looking to decorate their fortress of solitude.
Finally, today we will look at some other statues. These are made by DC Collectibles. There are a few to choose from with Zod, Faora, Superman, Jor El, and Superman vs Zod available. These statues are great! For the most part they are a 1/6 scale and have poseable capes just like the Kotobukiya version. My favorite though is a 1/12 scale statue depicting Superman fighting Zod. The pictures of this statue were under wraps until a couple of weeks ago. I for one think it was worth the wait to get a look at it. It does a great job of capturing my imagination at what the movie will be like.
In the end all I can say is that toys are fun! If you aren’t in to collecting them or don’t have kids to let play with them, you can at least admit that toys are a fun thing to look at from time to time. See you at the movies!!
