We love our huge statues and new action figures, but sometimes it’s the smallest piece that makes us smile the most. Today, we’re going to look at one of those: the keychains. These fun little pieces are easy to miss if you aren’t looking. My favorite is the Iron Man 3 light up Arc Reactor key chain by Monogram coming out in July. Each Monogram pewter keychain is a nicely detailed piece, and they have a quality weight to them as well. I have definitely stopped throwing my keys across the parking lot since I added the Batman Logo key chain to the mix. In the end any collectible is a tangible reminder of the fictional properties we love so much. Whether it is Batman, Superman, Iron Man, Punisher, Avengers, Wonder Woman, or The Nightmare Before Christmas-these little reminders of our favorite characters are an inexpensive and enjoyable investment.

We are getting ready for an exciting weekend at Orlando Comic Expo! This con features Drake Bell from Ultimate Spider-Man as well as a number of artists: Dennis Calero, Paul Gulacy, Bob Hall. Saturday aslo includes a few other artists: Rob Hunter, Alex Maleev, Cary Nord, Keith Pollard, and Rodney Ramos. Also, one of the more unique events is a pool party featuring Drake Bell in concert and a live DJ along with the costume contest. I’m really intrigued by this event, and I’m excited to see how it goes over.
We are excited to see the cosplayers, the trivia, the panels, and the overall excitement for comics! We will be bringing plenty of action figures, statues, bobbleheads, and other great collectibles. Make sure to stop by and say hello! If you aren’t able to make it, you can always check out our site at http://www.jmdretail.com
The Tetris light by Paladone is such a cool product. We had these in stock last year before Christmas, and it was hard to keep them in stock. Good news–these will be back in stock around the end of June! You can configure this light in many different ways, and the pieces light up when they are touching the rest of the lamp. Once you remove the piece, it turns off! Check out our short demo, and Paladone’s fun promo. You can reserve one today on our site!
We have been excited with the number of high-quality collectibles that are hitting the market for fans of the Mass Effect trilogy. The most recent arrival is the Commander Shepard bishoujo statue from Kotobukiya. She joins the previously released Liara T’Soni in the bishoujo line. Square Enix has also released Play Arts Kai Commander Shepard and Tali Zora Vas figures. If you haven’t seen the Play Arts Kai figures, they are really high quality, and highly detailed figures from popular video games like Mass Effect, Batman Arkham City, Halo, etc.
One of the more unique collectibles is the line of Mass Effect ship replicas from Dark Horse. Most of these are 5″-7″ long depending on the ship. However, Dark Horse is coming out with an 18″ Normandy replica and an 18.5″ Sovereign Reaper ship! We were able to see both of these at Toy Fair, and they were truly impressive.
In addition to the larger ships, Kotobukiya will be releasing a male version of Commander Shepard in the ArtFX line. This should be available around July 2013. There will be several interchangeable parts so you can display the statue several different ways. Funko will also be releasing a line of Mass Effect POP figures in September. We have seen some concept art for them, but the actual production images have not been shown yet. We are excited to see how those will turn out.
What is your favorite Mass Effect collectible?
Happy Star Wars and Free Comic Book day from all of us here at JMD Retail! Having the two days together makes it that much more epic. We took some time to head down to see some friends at Read More Comics in Brandon. They have such a nice set up, and run some great specials. If you are in town, make sure to check them out. While we were there we also got to hang out with one of the guys from the Geek Triumvirate as well. It was a great day so far, and now we will cap it off with some classic Star Wars! So how are you celebrating?
How many of you went to a midnight showing of Iron Man 3? I didn’t get a chance to go last night, but I will definitely be catching it this weekend.
Kotobukiya will be making ArtFX statues from the Iron Man 3 movie. They’ve already shown the concept pictures of the Iron Man Mark 42 and the War Machine statues. Unlike many of the previous Iron Man statues, these are designed on a unique base. The Mark 42 will be over water, and the War Machine is hovering near a pipe. I’ve seen mixed reviews on these styled bases, and I’m interested to see how these environments fit in from the movie. The detail on these statues looks like it will be great, as you would expect from Kotobukiya. We had seen the Mark 42 in person at Toy Fair, and you can find some pics of that on our Facebook page.
One of the additional features that I really like from Kotobukiya is the light up LED on the Mark 42. The arc reactor and eyes can be turned continuously or with a sound detector. These really added a lot to the Mark IV and Mark VII statues that Kotobukiya released previously.
What did you think of the movie, and are you excited for these two statues?
