We always look forward to our shipment from Kotobukiya. This month’s shipment included a new Marvel bishoujo, the next ArtFXJ from Trigun Badlands Rumble, and a great ArtFX statue from Dead Space 3!
First up is the Kitty Pryde bishoujo. This member of the X-men joins the other X-men women from the Marvel bishoujo line like Storm, Psylocke, and Rogue! This version of Kitty Pryde was base on illustrations from Shunya Yamashita and sculpted by Mangusai Touda. We were really pleased with how this statue turned out, and Lockheed adds the perfect touch to complete the statue.
Next we have the Isaac Clarke ArtFX from Dead Space 3. This statue shows Isaac in his Resource Integration Gear suit, in the snow, with his plasma cutter. A ball joint is also integrated into his neck to allow for his head to be posed. Really all that would make for a cool statue, but Kotobukiya included LEDs in his helmet, backpack, and glove! Check out that picture, and tell us that isn’t cool!
Lastly for this month is Nicholas D. Wolfwood from Trigun: Badlands Rumble. Nicholas joins Vash in the Trigun Badlands Rumble series. With The Punisher behind him and his pistol in front, Nicholas is ready for action! He also comes with removable sunglasses. Also, if you missed the news, Vash is being re-released in a Gunman in Black version!
You can find each of these on our site. Make sure to check them out, and let us know what you think!
We have been excited with the number of high-quality collectibles that are hitting the market for fans of the Mass Effect trilogy. The most recent arrival is the Commander Shepard bishoujo statue from Kotobukiya. She joins the previously released Liara T’Soni in the bishoujo line. Square Enix has also released Play Arts Kai Commander Shepard and Tali Zora Vas figures. If you haven’t seen the Play Arts Kai figures, they are really high quality, and highly detailed figures from popular video games like Mass Effect, Batman Arkham City, Halo, etc.
One of the more unique collectibles is the line of Mass Effect ship replicas from Dark Horse. Most of these are 5″-7″ long depending on the ship. However, Dark Horse is coming out with an 18″ Normandy replica and an 18.5″ Sovereign Reaper ship! We were able to see both of these at Toy Fair, and they were truly impressive.
In addition to the larger ships, Kotobukiya will be releasing a male version of Commander Shepard in the ArtFX line. This should be available around July 2013. There will be several interchangeable parts so you can display the statue several different ways. Funko will also be releasing a line of Mass Effect POP figures in September. We have seen some concept art for them, but the actual production images have not been shown yet. We are excited to see how those will turn out.
What is your favorite Mass Effect collectible?
Last week the much anticipated DC Huntress bishoujo and Jaina Solo bishoujo statues arrived. We have been looking forward to Jaina Solo since we saw the drawings at Toy Fair last year. She is a little different than most of the other bishoujo statues-like the ArtFX line- there are a few pieces that have to be assembled to properly display the statue. You must connect her torso, legs, gloves and accessories. I really like the pose and accessories on this statue. You can really picture her getting ready or coming back from a flight. It will be interesting to see if Kotobukiya does anything else with the Star Wars expanded universe, especially with the 7th movie on the horizon.
The DC Huntress bishoujo is another one that we’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. I enjoy most of the Batman related statues, so it was cool to see what Kotobukiya did with Huntress. Her flowing hair and cape add a nice touch to the statue. The mask, dark colors, and gargoyle add a mysterious feel to the statue that is kind of unique compared to most other bishoujo statues.
So what do you think of these statues? If you collect bishoujo statues, will you be adding these to your collection, and what is your favorite piece in your collection?
December’s Kotobukiya releases include additions to the bishoujo, ArtFX, and ArtFX+ lines.
First up is The Dark Knight Rises ArtFX. This statue has interchangeable right hands so you can display it with the grappling gun or EMP rifle. It also features what appears to be a puddle in the shape of a bat, which actually lights up with a cool blue color. I wish this had arrived closer to the movie release, but it is still a really cool statue for fans of the Dark Knight movies.
The next ArtFX+ in the Star Wars line: Boba Fett from Return of the Jedi! ArtFX+ are 1/10 scale statues, so they are a little smaller than most statues, but you can create some really neat displays with the smaller size. Display the bounty hunter with his blaster or preparing to fire wrist-mounted weapons.
Last is Power Girl from the DC bishoujo line. This is many people’s new favorite, and I have seen many positive reviews from people that don’t even care for the Power Girl character. With her powerful stance, flexing muscles and flowing cape, Power Girl will be a center piece for any bishoujo collection.
Merry Christmas from JMD Retail!!
