I have the power! Lately it seems there have been a lot of new MOTU products being announced. As a child of the 80’s this really is exciting to me. I remember watching He-Man and playing with the figures growing up. When I got the last product info, I actually went to YouTube and looked up the opening video for the He-Man cartoon. Those old cartoons were classic! So Funko has announced a series of Funko POP figures featuring He-Man, Skeletor, She-Ra, Spikor, and Hordak. These should arrive in May. We have already received the Wacky Wobbler bobble heads for Masters of the Universe, and that set included HeMan, Skeletor, Orko, and Beast Man. I usually prefer the bobble heads, but I really like the Pop figures for this line, especially Skeletor. If you like little novelties, there is also a Power Sword letter opener and a Castle Grayskull Business Card Holder that actually go together for a cool desk set. We’d love to hear your thoughts on these, or any fun MOTU memories you have!
We got great news that new POP figures will be coming out for the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones! The announced figures for The Walking Dead POP figures are Michonne and her Pet Zombie #1 and #2, Glenn, and Tank Zombie. Judging by the pictures that I’ve seen, I think the Tank Zombie looks pretty neat, and Glenn is a cool character, so those are the two that I’m most excited about. I like the Michonne figure, but I think I prefer the Wacky Wobbler version myself.
The second wave of Game of Thrones Pop figures will include: Renly Baratheon, Cersei Lannister, Robb Stark, Arya Stark, Jon Snow, and Jaime Lannister. I think this is my favorite overall series of POP figures, as each character is so unique. I’m looking forward to adding each of these to the first series and making a cool display. I still haven’t decided how to display them exactly, but I guess I have some time since they won’t arrive until around June.
Check out these figures and let us know what you think! Which are your favorites? Are there characters that you wish they would have included in this series? We’d also love to see any cool displays that you have of the first series of POPs.
Check out this blog which includes a video on some of the visual effects from Marvel’s the Avengers.

Last week the much anticipated DC Huntress bishoujo and Jaina Solo bishoujo statues arrived. We have been looking forward to Jaina Solo since we saw the drawings at Toy Fair last year. She is a little different than most of the other bishoujo statues-like the ArtFX line- there are a few pieces that have to be assembled to properly display the statue. You must connect her torso, legs, gloves and accessories. I really like the pose and accessories on this statue. You can really picture her getting ready or coming back from a flight. It will be interesting to see if Kotobukiya does anything else with the Star Wars expanded universe, especially with the 7th movie on the horizon.
The DC Huntress bishoujo is another one that we’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. I enjoy most of the Batman related statues, so it was cool to see what Kotobukiya did with Huntress. Her flowing hair and cape add a nice touch to the statue. The mask, dark colors, and gargoyle add a mysterious feel to the statue that is kind of unique compared to most other bishoujo statues.
So what do you think of these statues? If you collect bishoujo statues, will you be adding these to your collection, and what is your favorite piece in your collection?
With 2013 here, what are you looking forward to for the next 12 months? Here at JMD Retail, we have a few events that we are excited about, as well as some highly anticipated product releases.
First is Toy Fair 2013 in NYC. It is coming up fast in February. We got to attend the Toy Fair last year, and now that we know what to expect, we are hoping ’13 is even better. We will try to share as many pics as we can of the newly announced products. We are also hoping to find some new manufacturers to add to our product line.
In April, JMD Retail will be participating in our first Comic Con here in Tampa. If you are in the area, stop in and say Hello. This is the first weekend in April, and we are excited to meet some fellow collectors. We’ve been planning our layout and trying to determine how many products to bring with us. It will be a good learning experience for future conventions, and a lot of fun all at the same time.
Product wise, I think the Justice League New 52 ArtFX+ statue line from Kotobukiya is what we are most looking forward to. These have proven to be very popular so far based primarily on the pics online. We are looking forward to getting to see them in person, as I bet they will look even better than the pics.
Add in the Superman Man of Steel and Iron Man 3, and 2013 should be a pretty good year. What are you looking forward to the most for 2013?
