This past weekend we had the chance to do our first out of state show at the Walker Stalker Con. We learned a lot, sold some toys, met some nice people, and above all had a great time. It was a cool convention with an awesome guest list. Nearly all the cast of the Walking Dead both past and present were in attendance. From zombies to other characters the actors were so nice and approachable. My favorite actor moment was by far Lew Temple walking down the aisle announcing he was bringing sexy back in his 3 piece suit before taking his picture with JMD Jenny and our new friend from Killjoy Tshirts.
That brings us to another fine addition to the show. The other vendors we met were a lot of fun too. Killjoy Tshirts has a great selection of original shirt and bag designs. Not only is their product line varied and fun but they have had a few of their shirt designs appear on the Walking Dead as well.
We finished up each afternoon with some giveaways and had the good fortune to get a picture with each winner. It’s always fun to share some great collectibles with people who love them as much as we do. By the end of the weekend we had some cool signatures, some fun memories, and a lot of ideas for future shows to come. We always have a lot of fun at different conventions and can’t wait to do more. What conventions do you think we should do next?
The season premiere of The Walking Dead has come and gone and it was fantastic. I’m so pleased with the progress the show makes each year. The success of the show brings even more figures and collectibles our way. What could be more pleasing than that? Rick and the gang are getting quite the treatment with action figures, plushes, vinyl figures, statues, busts, key chains and more.
Mcfarlane Toys pioneered the Walking Dead toy craze with some great comic and TV figures. They started out great with a limited run of popular characters and even offered some chase variants. As the show has continued the Mcfarlane figures keep getting better and better. The articulation of the sculpts has grown leaps and bounds as well as the depth of the character roster. We have most of the main characters and the most memorable zombies ready to face the apocalypse.
Funko brings us some other great Walking Dead fun with their POP! and plushie lines. The POP! line gives us some great zombies and characters. With the regular releases, retailer and convention exclusives there are a lot of great options. But nothing is better for a cuddle than the Poncho Daryl plushie. He will keep you safe from walkers even while you sleep.
The most lacking area for The Walking Dead goodies is the statues and busts. Gentle Giant aims to repair that problem with a nice line of TV related items. The Rick Grimes bust recently released and a SDCC exclusive Michonne bust was a big hit as well. With talk of 12″ statues heading our way we are ready for the undead apocalypse.
What types of Walking Dead merchandise do you want to see get made? (Mine is a zombie Milton figure from Season 3!!)
We are excited to be a part of Fanboy Expo Tampa this weekend! It’s always fun to be around such a cool group of people at the cons, and meeting the guests is always a highlight, too!
Fanboy Expo originally was scheduled to have Adam West and Burt Ward attending. Holy Bullseye! The original Batman and Robin in Tampa? We were definitely excited for this. Unfortunately both of these guests were postponed until next year’s Fanboy Expo.
Not to worry though! There are going to be great guests all weekend! Chandler Riggs – who plays Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead, Billy Dee Williams – Lando Calrissian from Star Wars Episode V, Elvira, Jerry The King Lawler and more. Check the Fanboy website for specific details on times for each guest.
For our booth, we always try to step it up a little each time. We will have a few more display cases, and many more Funko POP figures. Of course, you’ll always find the latest from Kotobukiya, DC Collectibles, Funko, and other quality manufacturers. Stop by, say hello, and make sure to enter our Fanboy Expo drawing! Here are the details:

Walking Dead series 2 POP figures just arrived! This series picked up nicely where series 1 left off, and it includes Glenn, Michonne, Michonne’s Pet Zombie 1& 2, and Tank Zombie. I’ve already noticed a few cool displays with Michonne and her pet zombies. (We’d love to see your set up too!) I think Funko is doing a nice balance between the main characters and the zombies so far. Series 3 has already been announced and it will include Governor, Prison Yard Rick Grimes, Prison Guard Zombie, and Merle Dixon. Which POP Walking Dead figure is your favorite so far, and which character would you like to see next?
This past weekend, we had the pleasure of being an exhibitor at Tampa Bay Comic Con. Wow, what a weekend! We didn’t quite know what to expect at this show. We had attended a few times in the past, but this weekend definitely had some bigger guests with Lauren Cohan and Emily Kinney from The Walking Dead. Add in Drake Bell, many artists, and costume contests, and we knew this would be quite an event.
We had 3 booths for this event, and it took quite a while to set up on Friday night and Saturday morning. All the hard work paid off, though. We were really happy with how our booth turned out, and we got a lot of compliments on the layout that we used. Lauren Cohan wasn’t able to attend on Saturday, but the crowd was still packed. We really enjoyed the costumes-especially the young kid – probably 3 yrs old – dressed as Hulk, including body paint! Overall we were kind of surprised by how busy it was judging from the last few we had attended. We met a lot of cool people- It was a great day, and we were looking forward to what Sunday would hold.
Sunday is usually a slower day, but no one really knew what to expect with Lauren Cohan only being there for Sunday. We arrived at about 9 to restock some things in our booth, and there was already a good sized line. Someone came through our booth at about 1030, and told us that the line was out of the lobby, around the building and out into the parking garage! At some point, they cut off ticket sales and wouldn’t let anyone else into the convention! The rest of the day involved a lot of updates regarding lines, fire marshal threats, hearing of people buying wrist bands on the black market, and all kinds of stuff that I wish I could see firsthand. While all that was going on, we were trying to hold down the fort at the booth. It was so busy, which made the day go by fast but we barely got even a lunch break! We met a lot of people again Sunday, and also, it seems like everyone we knew stopped by to visit Sunday- even with all the Mayhem. It was nice to meet up with Nathan from http://geektriumvirate.com/, Nick from http://adesigngeek.com/, and all the guys from http://www.readmorecomics.com/. Also, we ran into Shawn, an old friend from years ago, who is now doing http://www.comicconartists.net/. If you get a chance, check these guys out – they are all really great people, who are passionate about comics. Our internet ended up being kind of spotty at our hotel, so we apologize that we did not get these updates as quickly as we intended. We arrived at Toy Fair on the third day, and it was noticeably quieter than the first two days. The only meeting that we had set up was with Bif Bang Pow. We found some exciting news for fans of The Big Bang Theory. There will be 8″ figures of Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, Howard, and Penny. There will also be 3 3/4″ figures of these characters plus Amy Farrah Fowler and Bernadette. There will also be various novelties for the show-our favorites being journals featuring the Roommate Agreement and the Relationship Agreement.
Dexter will be featured with several new items as well. There will be a Dexter Blood Splatter Analyst bobble head, as well as a Dexter bobble head with sound. A new 3 3/4″ Dexter blood spatter action figure will also be on its way mid-year. The Dexter news that we found the most interesting is a collectors box to hold the blood slides that come with the figures. This box set will also include an air conditioner collectors tin and mini Dexter figure.
The rest of the day we checked out some booths that we had missed throughout day 1 and 2. We turned in an order with Monogram International, so we will start to have more Marvel and DC keychains and a wider assortment of Nightmare Before Christmas items for all of the fans of that classic movie. Another new vendor that we came across is Mimoco. This company makes cool USB flash drives and MicroSC card readers that are designed like Star Wars, DC, and other characters. We are pretty excited to see people’s reaction to these new items, and we will have them up on our site in the next few days.
Unfortunately, we did not get pictures of the Mimoco items from the convention, but we will have Dexter and Big Bang Theory pictures up soon on our Facebook:

Overall this year was a very good year for Toy Fair. We are very excited about the new Kotobukiya Avengers Assemble ArtFX+, although that probably won’t release until early 2014. The Classic Avengers Hulk was also very impressive. Funko had so many new Pop and Wacky Wobblers to be excited about, especially Walking Dead. From DC Collectibles, the new Batman Black and White statues and Man of Steel Superman line look like they should be well received. We finished our trip up by riding the Staten Island Ferry to get a nice view of the city, walked around Manhatten a little bit in some of the best weather you could expect for a February in New York City. Now we are back in Florida, and getting back to work. We hope that you enjoyed the info from Toy Fair, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the new items!
Day 2 of Toy Fair has been interesting the last 2 years. There are no opening events, and it is usually a little less crowded, as some companies finish everything Sunday to get back to their offices. We started the day meeting with Diamond Comics. The items that we were impressed by the most was the Man of Steel line of Superman statues (unrelated to the movie). The first 5 statues were on display, and they showed quite a variety of artistic interpretations of the Superman character. We are excited to see if this line is as versatile and popular as the Batman Black and White statue line. We will have pictures of these up on our Facebook page later tonight:
Make sure to “like” our page for the latest news and updates. Diamond Comics also had the Icon statues from the Man of Steel movie on display for the first time. The Injustice 3 3/4″ figures were on display as well. If you follow DC Collectibles on Facebook, they had been teasing the Injustice Harley Quinn. It did not seem that many people liked the sculpt or costume of this figure, and I was expecting to be highly disappointed with these smaller figures. While they do not have the detail that the 6″ figures offer, the smaller size was better in person than I originally expected from the pictures I had seen. We found out there will be several Justice League box sets with exclusive sculpts and figures. I wish these sets included more new figures, instead of ones that have already been available separately, but we will see if that changes in the future. Batman Arkham City Series 4 was also on display along with the newest deluxe figure, Solomon Gundy. This will be similar in size to the Darkseid figure.
At Diamond Comics, we also saw new things from Diamond Select. The Walking Dead series 3 and 4 minimates were set up in a cool prison diorama. Robert Kirkman’s Thief of Thieves and Invicible will also be added to the Minimates lineup later in 2013. There will also be two new Walking Dead related games- Walking Dead Monopoly and Walking Dead Risk. The boxes were all that were available to see, so we were unable to see the tokens or Risk pieces–that was kind of disappointing.
The only other meeting that we had set up was with Paladone. We found that the Tetris lamps should be available again in April or May. There will also be a few new Tetris mugs, Tetris cookie cutters, and Tetris multi-tool/Swiss Army knife. These are pretty cool little collectibles for the Tetris fans. We stopped in with Monogram International. This company carries some Marvel and DC figures and novelties, like keychains, paperweights, etc. They have a solar powered paperweight of Thor’s hammer, which lights up. They will also be releasing a solar powered Iron Man hand, which lights up in the palm. We are excited to get some of these products in stock, and we hope that you like them too.
Our pictures should be up later today or tomorrow, and we’d love to hear which products you are excited for! Let us know, or ask any questions that you may have regarding Toy Fair news.
