We are back from New York after visiting the 2014 International Toy Fair. It was a great time with some awesome news! We got to see new items coming out from Neca, DC Collectibles, Diamond Select, Kotobukiya, Funko, Enterbay, & many others. Today we will highlight our two favorite manufacturers Kotobukiya and Funko.
Our favorite part every year is visiting our friends at Kotobukiya. They always have a great display filled with statues both out in the market today as well as all the fun new statues that have yet to come out. We got to see some of the cool pre orders that will be arriving in the coming months like the ArtFX+ Hulk and Nightwing or the Bishoujo Mara Jade and Spider-Woman. I personally loved seeing the Fine Art Juggernaut in person. It is massive! We also got to preview some of the items that were announced at the show like the ArtFX+ Star Wars 2pks with Chewy/Han Solo and Luke/Leia from A New Hope. There is a new Halo 4 ArtFX statue on the way and we got our first glimpse of the Iron Man prototype from the Marvel Now ArtFX+ line. Always expanding their lines with new characters like Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy keeps their products fresh and relevant. Their attention to detail in the sculpt as well as the finished product is second to none. Can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
Another favorite stop of ours is of course Funko. Each year Funko has a large elaborate set up. This year was no different with showcases of POP!s, wobblers, ReAction figures, and Legacy figures. This year Funko will be getting into the action figure arena with a widespread release of their vintage style ReAction figure line and the super detailed Legacy figure line. There will be some great licenses for these figures including Predator, Alien, Goonies, Back to the Future, & Pulp Fiction for the ReAction line. The Legacy line will be getting some winners too with Game of Thrones, Magic the Gathering, & The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Of course the POP! line will be growing this year with the announcement of True Blood, Ghostbusters, Magic the Gathering, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer just to name a few.
The second day of the Toy Fair you may have noticed a special announcement on our Facebook page. We have begun a new endeavor called The POP! Shop. Make sure to check out our new website and Facebook page for more information about this new idea. The POP! Shop is an automated retail system that will deliver nothing but Funko POP!s. We will be placing these cool machines in malls and airports. The initial placement will be in central Florida with plans to expand to other parts of the country as well.
We will have another blog out soon to talk about some of the other cool manufacturers we got to spend time with in New York. Check out pictures from our trip on our Facebook page and let us know what you think about the new JMD Amy out on the town POP! pictures.
This year saw the first released DC Comics ArtFX+ statues from Kotobukiya. It seems like just yesterday we opened the first case of the Superman statue. Now the seven Justice League statues are in stock. With that in mind the announcement from Kotobukiya that they are giving the Avengers similar treatment is very exciting.
First up for the Marvel Now ArtFX+ treatment is the Hulk. Set to scale with the rest of this line he is a behemoth all by himself. This statue is set to release in April 2014. So if 2013 was Justice League’s year for amazing statues then it seems that 2014 will be the Avengers.
It’s so refreshing to have a quality Marvel statue set in this scale. DC Collectibles has had some great DC statues over the years but no one really has had Marvel statues at this price point. Kotobukiya has incredible Fine Art statues but sometimes it’s hard to find room. Large statues are an awesome center piece but the awe of a complete Avengers set in my display case is something I am very anxious for. Which Marvel statues do you want to see given the ArtFX+ treatment?
We always look forward to our shipment from Kotobukiya. This month’s shipment included a new Marvel bishoujo, the next ArtFXJ from Trigun Badlands Rumble, and a great ArtFX statue from Dead Space 3!
First up is the Kitty Pryde bishoujo. This member of the X-men joins the other X-men women from the Marvel bishoujo line like Storm, Psylocke, and Rogue! This version of Kitty Pryde was base on illustrations from Shunya Yamashita and sculpted by Mangusai Touda. We were really pleased with how this statue turned out, and Lockheed adds the perfect touch to complete the statue.
Next we have the Isaac Clarke ArtFX from Dead Space 3. This statue shows Isaac in his Resource Integration Gear suit, in the snow, with his plasma cutter. A ball joint is also integrated into his neck to allow for his head to be posed. Really all that would make for a cool statue, but Kotobukiya included LEDs in his helmet, backpack, and glove! Check out that picture, and tell us that isn’t cool!
Lastly for this month is Nicholas D. Wolfwood from Trigun: Badlands Rumble. Nicholas joins Vash in the Trigun Badlands Rumble series. With The Punisher behind him and his pistol in front, Nicholas is ready for action! He also comes with removable sunglasses. Also, if you missed the news, Vash is being re-released in a Gunman in Black version!
You can find each of these on our site. Make sure to check them out, and let us know what you think!
We are over halfway through the ArtFX+ Justice League statues from Kotobukiya. Batman just joined Superman, Green Lantern, Flash, and Aquaman. This only leaves Wonder Woman and Cyborg to complete this set. Here is the final set from Toy Fair 2013, but we’d love to see your display so far! The good news is Kotobukiya is going to continue with the DC ArtFX+, as they’ve already announced Catwoman and Shazam! There was also a prototype of a Black Adam statue that was posted with the early Shazam pictures. We are excited to complete the Justice League set, and even more interested in what will be added to the lineup in the future! Which characters would you like to see in this scale?
We are back for another look at the toys and collectibles inspired by the release of Man of Steel. I for one can’t wait for the movie. Superman movies have had a bit of a troubled past. Superman 4 or Superman Returns comes to mind. This new film looks stunning and the toys and collectibles look just as good.
First up is the ArtFX Man of Steel statue by Kotobukiya. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, I love Kotobukiya. They do a great job bringing every piece they make to life. This statue not only looks great in it’s sculpt but it also has some unusual features as well. The cape is moveable. You can adjust the cape in nearly any configuration that you would like. That’s definitely awesome, a statue you can basically play with!!
Next is the Funko Man of Steel Wacky Wobblers and POP!s. These are some fun items to use at work on your desk or at home to display proudly next to your other collectibles. The POP!s are vinyl comic like versions of the characters while the Wacky Wobblers are essentially bobble heads of the characters from the film. Either way it is an inexpensive, fun way to celebrate the awesomeness of Man of Steel.
Where would our superhero movies be without action figures. This movie has a wide variety from the not very detailed to the intricately detailed. My favorite figures from the movie are definitely the Play Art Kai figures by Square Enix. They are 10″ tall and super detailed. They can take on any pose so they are good for those of us kids at heart who want to play with them or for the serious collector looking to decorate their fortress of solitude.
Finally, today we will look at some other statues. These are made by DC Collectibles. There are a few to choose from with Zod, Faora, Superman, Jor El, and Superman vs Zod available. These statues are great! For the most part they are a 1/6 scale and have poseable capes just like the Kotobukiya version. My favorite though is a 1/12 scale statue depicting Superman fighting Zod. The pictures of this statue were under wraps until a couple of weeks ago. I for one think it was worth the wait to get a look at it. It does a great job of capturing my imagination at what the movie will be like.
In the end all I can say is that toys are fun! If you aren’t in to collecting them or don’t have kids to let play with them, you can at least admit that toys are a fun thing to look at from time to time. See you at the movies!!
You are going to be seeing more of Slade Wilson, better known as the mercenary and assassin Deathstroke. You may have already seen the 3 3/4″ version from DC Collectibles based on the Injustice: Gods Among Us game. DC Collectibles also just announced the Super-Villains Deathstroke figure which will be approx 6.85″ tall. The super-villains figure will be available in December. Lastly, Kotobukiya has announced a Deathstroke statue for the ArtFX series. This statue is approx 12″ tall and includes a removable faceplate for the mask, so you can disply him masked or unmasked! The ArtFX statue will also be arriving in December.
With Deathstroke’s appearance in the Arkham Origins game, we may very well see some other great collectibles for this character in the future. Which one of these is your favorite?
How many of you went to a midnight showing of Iron Man 3? I didn’t get a chance to go last night, but I will definitely be catching it this weekend.
Kotobukiya will be making ArtFX statues from the Iron Man 3 movie. They’ve already shown the concept pictures of the Iron Man Mark 42 and the War Machine statues. Unlike many of the previous Iron Man statues, these are designed on a unique base. The Mark 42 will be over water, and the War Machine is hovering near a pipe. I’ve seen mixed reviews on these styled bases, and I’m interested to see how these environments fit in from the movie. The detail on these statues looks like it will be great, as you would expect from Kotobukiya. We had seen the Mark 42 in person at Toy Fair, and you can find some pics of that on our Facebook page.
One of the additional features that I really like from Kotobukiya is the light up LED on the Mark 42. The arc reactor and eyes can be turned continuously or with a sound detector. These really added a lot to the Mark IV and Mark VII statues that Kotobukiya released previously.
What did you think of the movie, and are you excited for these two statues?
