Wow things have been busy around here lately! Can you believe that we are a little over a week away from SDCC. Are you ready? Unfortunately, we won’t be attending this year, but we look forward to all of the exciting news to come!
For JMD Retail, this is our first summer showing at cons, and it has been so much fun! (Check out our photos on our Facebook page.) If you’re in Central FL, you may have seen us at Tampa Bay Comic Con, Orlando Comic Expo, Orlando Toy and Comic Con, or Ocala Comic Con! We have met a lot of cool people, and really enjoyed the whole thing so far. Some people have asked where else we will be. In August, you can find us at Fanboy Expo and Tampa Bay Comic Con again! Tampa was crazy for the spring show (see our previous post about the mayhem, if you missed it) and it should be even better this time with the new venue and great guest list.
What is the best con that you’ve attended? What makes for a memorable con experience? Do you have a crazy con story? We’d love to hear about it!
We were fortunate to be able to attend Star Wars Celebration VI. This event had all kinds of cool things going on like autograph sessions, interactive fan zones, film screenings, art, and more. Unfortunately, we were only able to make it for a few hours on Saturday, but it was a lot of fun in that short time. The costumes were great! There were all kinds of Star Wars action figures and items for sale. We saw a Star Wars Death Star playset that the person was asking $1,100 for! I don’t know what a good price for that set is, but it makes me wish that I had kept some of my old toys in the box when I was younger.
Kotobukiya also had a display with many Star Wars statues. We got to see some of the new items, as well as some older ones that were released before we started carrying their products. It was nice to talk to some of the reps to find out more about their sales and manufacturing. If you aren’t familiar with Kotobukiya, they really make high-quality statues, and they are expanding on their novelties, such as the Lightsaber chopsticks. We saw some Han Solo and R2-D2 business card holders, which really seemed cool.
Overall, I think the art and the atmosphere was my favorite part of the Celebration. It was cool to be around so many people that were passionate about the same thing. We heard that George Lucas even made an appearance for a select few people. I usually don’t get real excited about celebrities, but it’s not everyday that you get to meet such an iconic person in film and pop culture. We have quite a few more pics up on our facebook page. Find us at facebook.com/jmdretailtoys, and see more of this event!
