I have been a fan of Bane since the famed cover, Batman #497, that showed him breaking the Batman’s back. I have always wanted some kind of collectible that represented that. Well we finally have something to remind us of that iconic cover. In honor of The Dark Knight Rises, DC Collectibles has created a massive 1/6th scale statue showing off that scene from the movie. What has been your favorite collectible from The Dark Knight Rises so far? What other classic scenes would you like to see a collectible for?
So NYCC came to a close a few days ago. I don’t know about you all, but my twitter feed got overloaded with news from NYCC, whether it was manufacturer news, cosplay pictures, artist interviews, etc., there was always something to keep up with. The things that stood out to me for JMD Retail were some of the announcements from two of our favorite manufacturers – Kotobukiya and DC Collectibles.
Kotobukiya revealed the Aquaman Justice League New52 statue. This is the fourth statue from the Justice League series, which is proving to be very popular so far. Also, Mass Effect also got some attention with the new ArtFX Commander Shepard statue. Probably the piece that I’m most excited about is the Killing Joke Joker ArtFX statue. Maybe I’m just a sucker for the Joker statues, but the color and pose on this one look like it will be pretty impressive. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this one in person!
DC Collectibles announced the next line of the Arkham City figures, which will include a new Batman, Talia Al Ghul, and Nightwing. Also, the DC Comics Bombshells statues line of female heroes was announced. The most exciting news from DC in my opinion is the Superman statue line. This series is going to features statues from respected artists, similar to the Batman Black and White statue. The first few statues were revealed, and I am excited to see where DC goes with this series, as there are so many possibilities.
What did you think of these pieces? What news caught your attention from NYCC?
The Arkham City video game maybe almost a year old but the figures by DC Collectibles are fresh, new, and awesome in every way. Series 3, the latest wave to release has 6 new figures. That brings the total number of Arkham City figures released by DC Collectibles up to 16 plus one more in the Deluxe Titan Joker figure set to come out in November. The new wave features Azrael, Batman, Ra’s Al Ghul, Penguin, Clown Thug with knife, and Clown Thug with bat. I think Azrael is my favorite. There aren’t many Azrael figures produced and this one is unique from what we normally get. The character wasn’t very big in the game but every time I got a glimpse of him while playing I was impressed with the new look. DC Collectibles has announced that they will be making more of these figures and I’m curious which characters they will choose. Maybe Nightwing? Which Arkham City character would you want to see made? We did a recent blog post on the ArtFX+ line from Kotobukiya. We wanted to spotlight the Justice League New 52 Superman, Green Lantern, and Flash that have been announced for this line. I’ve also seen some pics of an unpainted Wonder Woman from SDCC, so she should be coming up soon. These are 1/7th scale, and stand approximately 7.5″ tall. Each Justice League member will have a magnetic base to keep each statue standing upright. These will be slightly taller than your standard 6″ action figures, and you are getting the quality look of a statue. The color and detail looks like it should be pretty amazing in these pieces, and a display of all 7 will look incredible. Also, the price of the ArtFX+ makes this pretty affordable compared to some other series on the market. So if you’re looking for a nice Justice League collection, make sure not to miss out on these!
So the second and third figures from the Justice League New 52 series are starting to hit shelves. The first figure in the series, Batman, was fairly popular, and was difficult to find when it was first released in our area. After several delays, JMD Retail just got the Aquaman and Green Lantern action figures in stock. We have seen several Green Lantern figures recently with the movie figures and everything, but we do like this figure and the Justice League packaging that it comes in, compared to some of the Green Lantern carded figures that were released. This is the first Aquaman figure that we’ve gotten in a while, and it is worth the wait. This figure has nice detail, especially if you like the New 52 aquaman styling. We are happy to see what DC has done with this line so far. We are looking forward to the rest of the line, and then we are excited to compare these figures with the ArtFX statues that Kotobukiya will be releasing. It’s an exciting time to be a DC fan.
Bane is one of the characters that always seems to be popular with collectors. From the Knightfall Bane figure all the way to the recent Arkham Asylum release, each figure seems to be difficult to find and very pricey if you are lucky enough to locate one. However, with Bane being part of the Dark Knight Rises movie, we are seeing more Bane collectibles hitting the market. One of the more unique ones that we are really looking forward to is the Bane statue inspired by Kelley Jones that is part of the Batman Black and White series. This statue is a little bigger than most statues in this series at 8.75″H x 7″W x 5″D. Bane is currently available to pre-order through JMD Retail, and it is expected to arrive in October 2012.
